As I might have mentioned already, I have an EU Law exam coming up tomorrow, so I decided to stay in and sacrifice the weekend for studying. Sitting above the books for hours and focusing can be overwhelming so sometimes a little help to keep your mind fresh is really needed.
There is a great website I found a few weeks ago that helps me with studying -and actually blogging too- that I want to share with you. It’s Coffitivity.
I don’t know how you are with this, but I can’t study, translate or work with music in the background. I just get distracted really easily and focus on the lyrics instead of what I am actually supposed to do. First I tried listening to Chinese songs but as my Chinese got better and I started to understand more and more of it, that plan failed too. And of course there’s classical music (I found the songs composed by Ludovico Einaudi really inspiring) but I just have to be in the mood for that.
A lot of people go to study at coffeeshops to solve this problem. The sounds of people talking, the coffee machine working, the mugs and glasses and plates.. And this is exactly what Coffitivity has to offer. You can choose from different styles of background sounds – my personal favourite is the ‘University Undertones’. There are studies that show that these kind of background sounds and noises can actually boost your creativity. However, I found that it is the perfect background noise for me: I can focus but it still kills that annoying silence that makes you start thinking about random stuff other than your study/work/etc. So if you are looking for something to help with studying or work while still staying comfortable at home, I highly recommend trying Coffitivity! I really can’t study or blog without listening to it since I found it!
